Many of you must have witnessed or experienced that unflattering situation unbelted jeans slide down, leaving a saggy bottom, as well as visible undergarments. And you also have heard that clinching a belt over blazer, dress, or cardigan creates a slim waist. These two are best reasons to don a belt. You can make a trendy belt out of old neck ties with DIY fashion.

A belt made of neck ties is a simple and easy way to create a funky look with any outfit. Ties come in various patterns as well as colors, and hence, it's easy to get creative with this one. Here are some easy tips, which will help you to get a new belt in about fine minutes.

  • Lay out one of the ties face down on the floor or table and an measure the length of the tie.
  • Using an existing belt which fits you well, measure the desired length of new belt. Add 2 extra inches to the desired length for folding through the d-ring. It will be the total length for your interfacing. If you don't have old belt for comparison, you can use the tape. Just thread it through the belt loops of your favorite jeans.
  • Then determine the width of the interfacing. It depends on the size of your d-rings.
  • The width of the fabric tube you are making will be ¼ inch wider than the width of the interfacing. To create the tube to desired width, fold the fabric lengthwise and pin a line down the length of the fabric. Using a medium-length straight stitch, sew the seam down the pinned line.
  • Turn the fabric tube out with the help of a safety pin. Attach a safety pin to one end of the interfacing to make this  easier.

  • You can use the fingers to tuck the rough end of the fabric inside for creating a finished edge on both ends of the belt. You can also use a pin to hold it in place before sewing them closed with a stitch. Use zigzag stitch to make it more decorative.
  • Finally, take one of the hemmed ends of the belt. Then insert it through the pair of d-rings making a 1 to 2 inch fold. Set down the folded end to secure the belt to the d-rings. And you're all done! The trendy belt is ready to wear.
