Homemade jewelry is one of the things that allows you to be more creative. With handmade jewelry you can have accessories matching to any outfit and the cost is much less than purchasing a piece from a boutique. By gathering a few material from the craft store and around the house, you can make a fun jewelry. Here are the some simple steps to make decoupaged beads and string them into a pretty necklace.

To make a necklace what you'll need :

  • Wooden discs from the craft store
  • Drill
  • Four ½ inch wooden beads
  • Scraps of crepe paper, tissue paper or other material to use for decoupage
  • Phone book
  • Paint brush
  • Mode podge
  • Toothpicks or skewers
  • Container for mod podge
  • Small amount of yarn or string and yarn needle

Before you get started to make the necklace, drill 2 holes in every disc. To hold the disc down and prevent from drilling through your table, you can use a large binder clip and clamp the disc to the first chunk of pages of an old phone book.

  • Drill hole on each side of the disk for stringing.
  • Collect all your bead decorating material and take some Mod Podge into a shallow container. Rip the tissue paper into small bits.
  • To cover the side of disc, saturate the paper with Mod Podge till it becomes easy to wrap around the edge. When the bead becomes dry, you can roll it on it's side to compress the paper further.
  • If you want, you can add the layers of different papers. Use the cupcake wrapper with a floral design to accent the beads.
  • Re-punch the drill holes with the help of skewer or toothpick. You can also give one more coat of Mod Podge to the beads for extra shine. Then let the beads dry completely.
  • After this, cut at 28” long pieces of string or yarn from stringing. Then thread one strand through one of the pedant, lining up the ends of the string, so that the bead falls to the center and tie a knot.
  • Then, string a round wooden bead around both strands tying another knot. Now, string both of the strands through the smaller bead from the front to the back and then vice versa, then a knot, again another woodern bead, and a knot. Repeat this process for other side.

And the pretty handmade necklace is ready to wear!
