T-shirts are one of the favorite wears for most of the people. If your T-shirt is looking ragged, you can give it a fresh look as a blustery tube top. It is one of the ways to make the use of an old T-shirt. Tube tops are brilliant for night. You can make a simple tube top form an old T-shirt and stretch your wardrobe dollars.
It is very easy and fast to make a tube top from a T-shirt and can also be created by someone new to sewing. Here are the steps to make trendy top from an old and boring T-shirt.
- Lay the t-shirt on the floor and measure upright from above your bust line to where you’d like the waist of the top to sit. You can use the measuring tape for creating a diagonal line from the top of the shoulder to the bottom corner of the shirt.
- Draw a straight line just below the collar of the shirt with the help of measuring tape. Then mark with chalk and cut across.
- Turn the pieces of shirt inside-out, to make the right sides of the fabric facing together. Then stitch up each side where you have made the diagonal cut. While sewing the T-shirt material, it can help to pin the seam first. Stitch about a 1/2” from the edge. If you want to keep your top from unraveling in the wash, you can go back over the edge of the seam with a zigzag stitch.
- After this, turn the shirt right-side out. To keep the top tight around the chest, create some button holes. Start 1 1/2” from the top of the shirt to make button holes. Make 3/4” chalk marks about an inch apart. Make use of the buttonhole setting on the sewing machine for completing button holes. You can place the button holes at the back, front or side of the shirt. It's up to you where you want to bow to be when it is ties.
- After creating button holes, turn the shirt inside-out. Fold up on the top of the shirt as it overlies the buttonholes by 1/4”. Start stitching 1/4” from the periphery of the fold, making a tube for the drawstring to be pulled through.
- To easily thread the drawstring through the casing, attach a safety pin to the end. To decorate the top, you can use a ribbon matching the logo on the shirt, braided yarn, or some wild shoe strings. After adding a drawstring, your trendy top is ready to wear.
