Capsular Contracture - Normally, human body reacts to a foreign body by forming a capsule of scar tissue around it. Due to breast implant, it will form the similar capsule leading to tightening and squeezing the implant which is called as capsular contracture. The symptoms leading to this are mild discomfort and firmness to severe pain, palpability of the breast implant, discomfort shape and/or movement of the breast implant.
Rupture/Deflation - A rupture symptoms include the implants shell containing silicon or saline getting weaker, implant damage during operation, flaw in the implant or injury. Deflation of implants occurs when the solution leaks through a damaged or unsealed valve. It occurs due to under-filling or overfilling of the breast implant with saline solution, closed capsulotomy, capsular contracture, stress problems such as severe physical manipulation, trauma etc.
Changes in Nipple and Breast Sensation - The breast or nipple sensation may increase or decrease after the breast implant surgery. The range of sensitivity varies from increased sensation to no sensation at all in the nipple or breast. These changes can be temporary or permanent and may affect your ability of nursing baby or sexual response.
Hematoma/Seroma - Hematoma is a collection of blood inside a blood cavity while seroma is collection of water portion of blood around the incision or breast implant. Postoperative seroma or hematoma may lead to capsular contracture and/or infection resulting into pain, swelling and bruising. Surgical draining can lead to a small scar, deflation or rupture of the breast implant.
Pain - Intensity and duration of pain may vary after breast implant. Along with improper size, surgical technique, placement or capsular contracture, pain related to interference with muscle motion or nerve entrapment may also be felt by the patient.
Infection - Any surgery leads to infection, if not done or treated properly after surgery. Infection related to breast implant is hard to treat than that of normal body. If the antibiotics fail to react then the breast implant needs to be removed and replaced with other, after the infection is determined. If symptoms like vomiting, sudden fever, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting and/or sunburn-like rash are observed, then it is due to Toxic Shock Syndrome which should be diagnosed immediately.
Breast implants is a risky surgery which may lead to various complications. If you get involved in such complications, you should immediately inform your doctor and get proper treatments.
