Aerobic workout is a physical activity of moderately low intensity and long duration, which depends mainly on the aerobic energy system. Aerobic means "in the presence of oxygen" ;, and refers to the use of oxygen in the body's energy-generating or metabolic process. Many kinds of exercises are aerobic, and by definition are executed at modest levels of intensity for prolonged period of time.

Few advantages of doing regular aerobic workout are:

* Strengthening the muscles involved in respiration, to assist the flow of air in and out of the lungs.

* Enlarging and strengthening the heart muscle, to increase its pumping competence and decrease the resting heart rate, called as aerobic conditioning.

* Escalating muscles throughout the body.

* Enhancing circulation efficiency and decreasing blood pressure.

* Escalating the total number of RBC’s in the body, assisting transport of oxygen.

* Enhanced psychological health, including decreasing stress and lowering the occurrence of depression.

In addition to the health benefits of aerobic exercise, there are several performance benefits such as:,

* Enhanced storage of energy molecules such as carbohydrates and fats in the muscles, allowing for augmented endurance.

* Neovascularization of the muscle sarcomeres to boost blood flow through the muscles.

* Escalating rate at which aerobic metabolism is set off within muscles, permitting a greater segment of energy for strong exercise to be produced aerobically.

* Enhancing the capability of muscles to use fats throughout exercise, preserving intramuscular glycogen.

Both the performance benefits and the health benefits, or "training effect", need a minimum time and frequency of exercise. It is recommended that 20 minutes of exercise for at least 3 times a week can be beneficial.
