Betty Suarez is the main fictional character of Ugly Betty, the American drama-comedy series. She is represented by America Ferrera , who won a a 2007 SAG and 2007 Golden Globe award for her portrayal of the character. She also won the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy award for the her role at 59th Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated again at the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards in the same category.

Betty Suarez is a 22 year old Mexican American woman living in the Jackson Heights neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. Betty is sorely lacking in fashion sense. She is known to be good hearted, courageous and slightly naive. She is suddenly thrust into a new and different world when she gets a job at Mode. It is a trendy high fashion magazine based in Manhattan and a part of the publishing empire of Bradford Meade.

Daniel, Bradford's son, becomes the Editor-in-Chief of Mode following the death of Bradford's longtime mistress, Fey Sommers. Bradford appoints the inexperienced Betty Suarez as the personal assistant of his womanizing son to reduce Daniel's habit of sleeping with his assistants. As the time goes, Daniel and Betty become friends and help each other navigate their personal and professional lives.

Their co-workers make the life at Mode difficult for both Daniel and Betty. Mode's receptionist, Amanda Sommers always humiliates and mocks Betty for her awkward nature, lackluster physical appearance, and initial lack of taste in fashion. However, she gains true friends in nerdy accountant Henry Grubstick and Christina McKinney, a Scottish seamstress. Though, Betty gets the job as an assistant to the Editor-in-Chief, she has dreams of and aspires to much more than this. Later, she also gets promoted to the the position of editor at Mode.

The show, Ugly Betty, deals with Betty's struggles to reach the editor's position in the world of publishing while looking at her private life. Betty always has had one goal in life, to make it into the publishing business. Betty Suarez is hard working, sweet, intelligent and most importantly, ambitious woman. She is devoted to her job and her family – father Ignacio, nephew Justin and sister Hilda. She always supports people and can handle her problem properly.

Betty Suarez may not be the ideal candidate in the glamorous world of fashion, but that didn't stop her from getting the job in fashion magazine. Although she's not good in the taste of clothes, she's good in fashion world and working at Mode is the best achievement for her. Despite what many 'fashion people' might think, Betty is a true inspiration to unfashionable girls who accidentally came in the fashion industry. Her character reveals the fact that 'work hard, and you'll get what you deserve'. Stay true to yourself and don't let yourself forget your own dreams.
